· On December 13, 2010, Bridges to Employment opened It's all good! A retail clothing store selling new and Almost New clothing, jewelry and accessories for the whole family! The store's mission is to provide job sampling and training opportunities for job seekers with disabilities in Somerset County, New Jersey. The store is located at 91 West Main Street, Somerville, NJ. Check it out at www.itsallgoodsomerville.com. · On October 1, 2010, Bridges to Employment received a SEED Grant from the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services to open up a Store in downtown Somerville. The store’s mission is to assist people with barriers to employment to receive job sampling and work experience in a retail setting. (908)393-9484 or check us out at www.itsallgoodsomerville.com. · On June 26, 2010, Bridges to Employment hosted its’ first Hearing & Communication Expo, building bridges for people with hearing loss at Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC). It was well attended and everyone received a lot of information about services and products for those with hearing loss. Stay tuned for next years’ Communication Expo! · On Sunday, March 21, 2010 from 10:00—11:30 am Bridges to Employment collaborated with Our House, Inc. and Delta Community Supports, Inc. and held the first Annual Walk for Work fundraiser at the Bridgewater Commons Mall. Collectively, the event raised over $4,000 to help offset costs for Supported Employment Services from all three agencies. Check back soon to view our newsletter! · June 4, 2009, Bridges to Employment hosted our Open House for our new Career Development Center. It was a well attended event. We provided tours of the Center and offered detailed information about services that will be provided. Among those in attendance, officials from the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, the Division of Deaf and Hard of Hearing and Alternatives leadership came to share in the excitement. To learn more about the Career Development Center (CDC), click here. · In March, 2009 Bridges to Employment was one of three agency’s in New Jersey who was awarded a grant to begin providing Vocational Assessment, Training and Job Placement Services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. We officially opened our doors at 600 First Avenue, Condo 1 in June, 2009. · In March, 2008, Bridges to Employment expanded their Supported Employment program and began providing services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing population. Our Career Facilitators are fluent in American Sign Language, are screened by the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (DVRS) and have a strong knowledge of Deaf culture related to the workplace. · On May 15th, 2008, Bridges to Employment, a division of Alternatives, Inc. launched our expanded career services and training program, at an information seminar and breakfast for the corporate and business community who wanted to raise their awareness of hiring people with disabilities. We were in good company at The Pines Manor in Edison, with a turnout of over 50 of our business and community partners.
